Being Proud of Who You Are.
‘You Don’t Know Home’: Amazing Poems of Love and Hope: A Life Circle: About Love Leaving Home; by Pearldiver. This may relate to any country in the world, as irrespective of nationality, people leave home to travel and experience the sights, cultures and lifestyles of other countries. However, most never forget their homelands and carry that national pride with them wherever they go.
‘You Don’t Know Home’ is a poem of hope, that may have described how Ireland (as a parent) felt giving up so many of her children, to other countries and always hoping that they would never simply desert her, or forget the rich heritage that we are all given. This story also relates to Kiwis and Australians who for many years, like the Irish, have spread themselves throughout the world, in most every profession, country and culture.
It has for many years, been part of the general New Zealand culture, to study and work towards gaining industry or professional qualifications and then travel. We in New Zealand call this our ‘OE’ or Overseas Experience and part of that experience is just about going, to where? It does not usually matter; but inevitably the United Kingdom, USA, Europe, Asia, Africa or South America, will learn firsthand some aspects of ‘kiwi culture’ directly from kiwis on their OE. Hopefully, that experience will be a positive one.
Many people
throughout the world are often surprised at how open and laid back New
Zealanders and Australians are as people. We are generally quite close and share similar values and
interests. That relationship was forged
nearly a hundred years ago, during the First World War, when once there was hope that in the great war we wouldn't be slaughtered as we fought and died side by
side in Turkey, France and Belgium in the trenches, thus developed a healthy and competitive respect for each other. So it is very common to find both groups
traveling the same places, although the Kiwis prefer Marmite on their toast, as
opposed to a substandard copy called Vegemite, which the Aussis prefer. Both nationalities are hugely sports minded. Both countries have an amazing broad spectrum of scenery, though we stole a march on Australia with films like Lord of The Rings. Well, it's far better when you are standing on the spot, in person and without digital enhancement (of the people - not the scenery). It is different around every corner and every corner is different.

Welcome To New Zealand.
Just in case you think Kiwis and Aussis are arguing seriously.
Some Rivalry Facts: Although New
Zealand has a far better rugby team called the All
Blacks, Australians consider the best Race Horse ever, Phar Lap, as being their
own; but in fact the horse was Made in New Zealand. Did I mention that both nationalities, within
their collective Southern Hemisphere culture
always ‘have each other on’ in a
good natured way? In other words, they
try to make a joke at the other party’s expense. We are extremely
competitive (especially against each other) and we are both, as pioneers
and warriors, the people who tend to roll up their sleeves and get the
job done, irrespective of the difficulty of the job. We enjoy cold
beer, great wine, BBQs, laughter and good company. I guess that is why
Kiwis and Aussis get along together so
well and attract those from other cultures who enjoy just being.

Can You See Us? In NZ and Oz.. We Really Are Down Under!!
Take Care All Travelers.
Please
enjoy ‘You Don’t Know Home’ it was written for all the sons and daughters, who
eventually come home when they are hungry, or when they find that home is a
pretty good place to be proud of. In NZ
we have a native bird called the Tui. I have mentioned Tuis in the poem and I do that because they are unforgettable; in nature, appearance and in song.
Like Kiwis, they are a very special birds and are an excellent indicator that the local environment is a healthy one, by their presence and their amazing songs that highlight their ability to mimic other birds and of course; kangaroos.
Where ever you come from and where ever you are going to, always remember that the folks at home love you. Be Well and Take Care.

* ‘You Don’t
Know Home.’ *
I took a feeling from your soul
I can’t paint it
Or explain it, in just a word
So I held your innocence to my heart
I tried to hold you from the plane
Though I always knew
Your journey, must now start
You don’t know home
Until you’ve heard the haunting call
Of tuis, just before the dawn
Singing goodbye to their lovers
Loyal to southern stars, a parting moon
No, you don’t know home
Until you’ve seen our green lands
And felt my hug, silently
I miss you, please, come home soon
Here, life is calling, I didn’t know
How to say, that I love you
Can’t you feel that in your heart?
I took that feeling from your soul
And as you’re leaving, I realized
Our pride, our love, will never let us part
Now go knock them out
In Milan and in New York
Enjoy your champagne
Sunsets in San Tropez
For I will always be here
Just for those, I really love
When you want a special place
When you really need, to get away
Because, you won’t know home
Until you’ve seen the green again
Heard the tuis, walked the beauty found
In our hearts, our arms, or an empty beach
But you’ll feel like coming home again
When you’ve seen the world and realized
That home is where the heart is
And this very special heart
is, my love..
Never out of reach..
Kia Kaha.

...beautiful PD...and your photos are amazing as usual
Fantastic hub. There sure is no place like home.
This is a candidate for the KT awards 2011. Well done! :o))
sent to Toronto's 'Place of Hope' housing about 25 abused women who got courage to flee, though protected, now terrified stuck on regret, guilt and mostly alone for safety reasons. Essentially a tight up safe house. I had a stay there we'll say, never occurred to me they give us tools or suggestions to keep moving in a safe direction, but right on arrival, would have been cool to even hear someone whisper that under-recalled safe acting word
HOPE, now they will. R, please keep kicking ass and kissing names your touching. You'll probably never know it, or rather whom, but does it matter if you just [and surely must] are touching lives. Copyrights I took a bit further and did not give your site here, felt cheap kinda, for now. You gave me cool hope few weeks back as I wallowed in my own self pity, then said who am I helping now? 0 is who. So turning my site into one for charities to blog. All charities, the full way! so thanks agead of time for writing the kickass front page about hope by pearldiver© or ,kjhlinuyluy;nu;oinui on .iju;oiun at,khn;oi; oi io or something - I need a warriors grandson on this and nothing less
cheers mate

You always find ways to tug at my heart PD! My grandmother always wanted to go "home" to Ireland. She was 2nd generation American, but always and deeply felt the call to go back. But never got the chance. Thank you for making those of us with 'other homes' feel not so isolated!
Fascinating, as always, Pearl Diver. So chock-full of iinformation about NZ - and yourself, too!
Something of a mongrel of cultures myself, born in the UK, raised in NZ and now raising my own in Oz. Related well to the things you wrote.
Mauri ora! Kia ora!
Beautiful poem Pearldiver! South Africans left their country in droves at one time - some intended it to be an extended vacation or working holiday end regretfully a large number of them never came back. Let us hope that deep inside they remember and long to return to their "home".
Breathtaking photographs to accompany your -- as always -- uplifting and provocative words. Now I know more about New Zealand -- aside from being where those blokes filmed Lord of the Rings. It must be easy to have such reverence for home when home is so downright gorgeous and unique. It seems to me that there is no place like NZ on earth. My cousin will be there soon; I'll tell her to get some good pictures for me. Cheers and blessings.
Beautiful. From one who just enjoys being :)
You're such a great writer. I do love the pics with the words too. Another great job Pearldiver! God bless!
Great Hub - lovely images as well as words - thanks, Sembj

Pearldiver, this is a lovely hub. The intro is perfect; the poem speaks to my soul. Being an "absent next door neighbour" from W.A, just a little jump across the Tasman Sea and then only a short walk across the Nullabor, I feel that country calling me. Voted up.
