'Essential Prerequisites of Talent’

"What are the prerequisites of talent?"

I asked a busker playing guitar in the rain

“Well now let me think” he responded

Though he continued to practice his chords

And then for one complete rain cloud

He strummed and picked and thought

Without words, expression or pain

Then he stopped and firmly said to me

“Well, I’d like to answer your question

But I’d like to answer it this way.”

And looking me directly in the eyes

He just smiled and began to play

Oblivious to the cold, oblivious to the rain:

o0o

Always look at what you do well to find the special talent within.

It takes a positive attitude.

“Well it takes a lot of belief

To actually see the special in you

And it takes a lot of courage

To never give up once you do

And it takes a lot of heart

To have the love to push on through

And then turn everything into habit

No matter what cynics say

Have faith to never betray who you are

Being positive, will blow them away”

o0o

And he was, the rain had stopped, blown away

I don’t think that the musician had noticed

Droplets continued to use his hair as if a ladder

Some climbing down, or free falling to the ground

Steamy heat rose in the grayness, surrounding great talent

Playing from the depths of a need to shine

Beyond perceived limitations of this cold, wet day

o0o

He played on, a new rift, new lyrics

Showing the relevance of having talent...

o0o

“And when it all looks like you’ve made it

Sit down and practice, then practice again

Aim to catch every dream that you pursue

Commitment makes for a stronger you

And you’ll need the power of endurance

You’ll need confidence to keep you sane

Because if you fear stormy days, like others do

Then you’ll never learn about success

There, within your rhythm, your focus

It comes to you there, it's formed

Your talent, your true creativity

You asked me what talent needs, for talent to be

Yet every artist feels it flowing through their veins

But I believe that talent can, be described simply

As that which shows your character at its best

Given to an audience blessed

And prepared to ignore the rain!”
